N660NR Pilatus PC-12/45 ditching location

July 8, 2001 takeoff 00:10Z, operation was normal until 02:45Z. On King KLM90B? autopilot cruise at FL270. The PT6A turboprop engine was shut down after they heard loud noise. Temperature gauge was monitored. Relight unsuccessful. The propeller remained feathered. Descent into cloud. Ceiling 100ft.

Flap up, gear up ditching at 03:00Z. Stall speed in this configuration is 65kt. Damage to the airplane they noticed was only one side of winglet ripped off and floating on water. All four were in exposure suits when they ditched. A liferaft was thrown out to a calm sea. In addition to the survival gears/food in a bag, they collected food onboard (and even passports and wallets) during descent and brought them onto the 6-man raft. Two could lay down at a time due to its space.

A cargoship came straight at them next morning. They sent up a flare. The ship responded by light gun. After rescue by the Russian cargoship at 18:30Z, they flew on a Russian helicoper from the top of a container on the ship to Yuzinosakalinsk/UHSS. They took an airliner to Hakodate Airport.
